A new framework for managing infrastructure systems could help transportation, energy, and water organizations harness the power of digitalization and address challenges such as decarbonization and resilience. To build smarter, more sustainable, and resilient infrastructure, cities need to reimage the infrastructure services they provide, and arrange deeply interconnected technological, social and environmental systems to do so. The Infrastructure Architecture Framework follows two years of collaborative research supported by the United Engineering Foundation and delivered by the New York Academy of Sciences, with support from Mott MacDonald.
The aim was to introduce civil infrastructure leaders to the type of enterprise architecture and systems engineering approaches that have proven effective in managing complex e-commerce, aviation, and defense systems. Examples from the water, energy, and transportation sectors show how the model can be applied to civil infrastructure. This project demonstrated that an enterprise architecture can provide a systemic approach for describing complex sociotechnical infrastructure systems, their purpose, services, standards, integration and content.
Participants will be exposed to emergent standards and practices for integrating management and information and engineering systems for complex cyber-physical infrastructure systems.
