You will learn how microgrids fit into the evolving worldwide electric grids and the reasons why microgrids have become more prevalent in some locations. We start by defining what a microgrid is compared to a large electric grid or a small nanogrid and how they can and should interconnect. You will learn about the markets for microgrids and some of the underlying technical, economic, and regulatory forces at play. The emergence of lower cost distributed generation and increased production of grid scale batteries and other ways of storing electric power as they influence the formation of a microgrid will be discussed. The architecture of the future electric grid is the largest system integration problem facing the world today. This seminar will help you to understand some of the current and future solutions to this complex problem.
